Summer holidays up to 22% cheaper in the eurozone

Summer holidays are costing much less this year in Europe, according to a report from the Post Office which found that prices were cheaper in all the popular destinations it surveyed except for one.

VrXSBwoWnDoThe biggest fall in prices were found to be in the Algarve, where essential holiday costs such as the price of eating out and suncream were a huge 22 per cent less than they were last year.

Significant savings – thanks to the strong pound – are also possible in many other popular resorts, such as in Corfu, where prices were down by nearly 20 per cent, and also in Menorca and Croatia, where prices had fallen by around 16 per cent since last summer.

The most affordable resort, when prices on the ground were compared, was Sunny Beach in Bulgaria. Ten items here (ranging from a cup of coffee to insect repellent) cost £37.39 on average. The most expensive was Sorrento, on Italy’s Amalfi coast, where the same items cost £101.60. The only resort that experienced an increase in prices was in Turkey.
