Sharjah has assumed a prominent place in Russian-CIS tourism markets
Sharjah got highlighted position and it is persistent to keep its position on big tourist market and market of travelling of Russiaand CIS (Community of independent countries), said HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, president of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. He said that after spectacular opening of four-day happening “Leisure Moscow 2013”, which is held from 17th to 20th September in Russian capital. Sharjah’s delegation with the SCTDA participate in high-profile networking of happenings in industry of free tourism on exhibition Expo Crocus Centra 13th in a row. This summit for 19 years already attracts highflyers and drivers on market of so called leisure and tourism, investors and market leaders which represent more than 70 international destinations.
Pointing out on massive growth of tourist income from Russian and CIS countries for Sharjah in last few years, SCTDA president said that emirate considers region as a one of its key tourist markets and wants to additionally spread its share of tourists.Sharjah was visited by 220.662 Russian tourists in first half of the year, and Russians are at the top of the list of international tourists in Sharjah, and make 23 % of total number.Noman also said that one of the reasons is Sharjah’s leading air transporter Air Arabia, which continuously spreads its net in Russia and CIS regions.
Sharjah’s delegation with the SCTDA on the top includes representatives of emirate tourist and catering sector, including SharjahInternationalAirport, Air Arabia, Al Khalidiya tourism,Hotel Golden Tulip Sharjah National Hotels Group,Hotel Ramada Sharjah, Coral Beach Resort, Al Seef Beach Resort and Sharjah National Travel and Tourism Agency.
Al Noman said that they pay big attention to importance of event, since it offers important platform for gathering key players fromRussiaand CIS market and global tourism and entertainment industry. Around 19 million tourists per year travels abroad, so Russian and CIS markets are very important for Sharjah, he said.
Al Noman hopes that successful promotion on the fair “Leisure Moscow” will help to next tourist season, which is at the same time as many Sharjah’s prominent festivals, Sharjah Water festival, Sharjah Light Festival Sharjah, Sharjah International book fair and other cultural, entertaining happenings for all ages.
