Smoking ban in Russia

On the model of majority of countries form the west where smoking is banned in public places, from June the same ban will be valid in Russia.

In country where 40 % of adults are smokers, with the aim to improve public health, Russian president Vladimir Putin signed the law which from June bans smoking in al public places in the country.

Law will be applied in two phases, so from 1st June this year smoking will be banned in public transports and at the railway and bus stations, in lifts and in state, health and educational institutions.

From June 2014 smoking will be banned on the ships, in trains, hotels, restaurants and café bars. With the new law it will also be banned commercials of tobacco products and sponsorship by the tobacco industry.
